In a thrilling finish the seemingly unstoppable Caracas Leones won in dramatic
fashion coming back to beat the Dublin Pubcrawlers by the count of 4 to
3.
Caracas had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3
hits. Carlos Delgado opened up the inning nicely when he laced a one-base
hit. John Smoltz then let a pitch get away from him. Steve Finley then
lined a base-hit. David Wright came up and he smacked a three-run homer (his
8th of the season) giving Caracas the win and sending the home town fans into
a frenzy. Caracas totaled 7 on the afternoon.
Tim Harikkala(6-2) went 3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Smoltz(2-3)
absorbed the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs without retiring a batter and
saw his ERA jump from 3.11 to 3.58.
'Now that is what I call fun! I just love baseball, especially games like
this, of course,' Alan Dyche offered. 'Everyone at the stadium had a great
time - did you see the fans go wild there at the end?!'
